About us

Our mission: The purpose of the MHS Cheer Squad is to build leadership and character in a positive learning environment. We seek to make better people, not just better cheerleaders. Above all, we are committed to teaching safety and self-respect, developing responsibility, encouraging honest effort and clarifying life-long lessons. The primary mission of our program is to support the curricular and extracurricular activities of MHS by promoting school spirit and to promote good sportsmanship among our team, our school, and our community.

About the Coach: Sarah Waff, MFA, MA, BS, is an AACCA member and certified cheerleading coach. She has instructed all levels of ballet, jazz, tap, modern, hip hop, fitness, gymnastics, ballroom and preschool dance for over twenty years. Sarah has served as faculty at the University of New Mexico, Santa Fe Community College, and Middle Georgia College where she coached the MGC Cheerleading Squad and MGC Dance Team. Sarah currently teaches at the University of New Mexico and at East Mountain Dance in Edgewood, NM. She is also a choreographer for the East Mountain Dance Company. Sarah has won numerous choreography awards and her work has been heralded as “innovative, thought-provoking and humorous” by the Albuquerque Journal.
